a1 report build

Combine a discovery inventory and per-page audit results into HTML, PDF, JSON, and one W3C EARL report.

Build a report

a1 report build \
   --inventory .a11ied/audits/createdbyfireside-com/inventory.json \
   --results-dir .a11ied/audits/createdbyfireside-com/pages \
   --out .a11ied/audits/createdbyfireside-com/report

Use --formats html, json to skip PDF and EARL when a fast local check is enough. JSON is always written because it is the complete presentation data contract. --fail-on uses the same impact levels as a1 audit. Exit code 4 reports findings at that threshold after the bundle has been written; it does not mean file generation failed.

Add --draft to view an unfinished assessment in one command. It reads available page results, labels HTML and PDF as drafts, and sets status: "draft" in JSON. Page statuses and the saved inventory stay unchanged. Pending checks remain incomplete; the command does not perform them.

a1 report build \
   --inventory .a11ied/audits/createdbyfireside-com/inventory.json \
   --results-dir .a11ied/audits/createdbyfireside-com/pages \
   --out .a11ied/audits/createdbyfireside-com/preview --draft

Outputs

report.htmlSelf-contained report for a browser.
report.pdfPrint-ready copy of the HTML report.
report.jsonEvery fact shown by the built-in report.
report.earl.jsonOne EARL JSON-LD graph for all audited pages.
report.manifest.jsonGenerated file paths, SHA-256 hashes, formats, and assessment revision when supplied.

Without --draft, every selected page must have valid audit results with no pending procedures, or an explicit error with a reason. Missing or corrupt files for pages marked audited block generation. In a sampled audit, unselected pages stay not tested and do not block the report. The report includes recorded manual evidence and coverage gaps.

Publication and recovery

Report files are rendered in a sibling staging directory and checked against the manifest before the complete directory replaces the published bundle. A rendering failure preserves the previous report. Concurrent builds for the same output directory run one at a time.

After an interruption, repeat the same command. It discards unfinished generation or recovers a verified directory swap before building again. Unexpected directory replacements stop recovery and preserve their files. A swap can leave the output directory temporarily absent until recovery finishes.

Use a dedicated output directory outside the inventory, page results, run file, verified raw evidence inputs, and the current working directory. Existing unrelated files and old artifact files are retained. Unselected report formats are removed from the new bundle. PDF artifact links point to the published local bundle directory.

Successful publication confirms that the generated files passed their hash checks. Assessment completion remains a separate value in the manifest and report.
